Coding

Coding is a way for programmers to communicate with computers by writing instructions for them to follow. Think of it as a recipe, telling a computer what elements it needs to work with, what actions to take, and what conditions to consider. Coding is a fundamental part of programming, which involves writing codes to complete projects. Coding can improve your problem-solving skills, helping you see problems from a new perspective. It also requires logical thinking and pattern identification, which can help you understand how computers work.

Considerations for neurodivergent individuals : Individuals on the spectrum tend to surpass their peers in coding because they naturally possess the qualities that are required to excel as a software developer. Autistic people are logical in their thinking, enjoy predictability, and are visual learners. However, learners with ADHD may struggle with course content, presentation, or applications. With the right strategies and support, it is absolutely doable.

Reading/Book Club

The book club events on our website are safe spaces for individuals to share their passions, feelings, and interests for reading and storytelling. Individuals interested in the book club will be able to meet up with others and share their thoughts about the books they have read. This is an interactive and bonding experience that is enjoyable for everybody. If you are looking for a relaxing group to share your thoughts about a book, there are countless clubs to join. However, if you prefer a more of a debate environment, there are countless clubs that welcome that as well. Some benefits include making friends, expressing emotions, sharing the love of books, and having a diverse selection of book recommendations.

Considerations for Neurodiverse Individuals : When neurodiverse individuals are involved in interactive settings such as a bookclub, there are many methods to ensure one's safety, well being, and enjoyment.

Sound Sensitivity : If one is sensitive to loud noises and talking, they can join silent book clubs. These special book clubs are perfect for shy or just sound sensitive individuals. Instead of dealing with loud discussions with multiple people talking at the same time, silent book clubs allow friends/strangers to meet up, discuss their book for a little while, then dedicate an hour to silent reading.

Light sensitivity : If the facility where the book club meeting is taking place is too bright, one can always bring hats or sunglasses to cope with bright lights.

Comfort Items : If one is anxious about attending events including unfamiliar people, one can always bring fidget toys, stuffed animals, or even friends.

Music

Music is vocal or instrumental sounds combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. Music is composed and performed for many purposes, ranging from aesthetic pleasure, religious or ceremonial purposes, or as an entertainment product for the marketplace. Musical mediums of performance include the voices, instruments, or using digital audio workstations. Music has been known to improve memory, improve mood, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve sleep quality.

Considerations for neurodivergent individuals : Music can support people who are neurodivergent in many ways. Music therapy can help people with sensory processing differences feel more relaxed and less overwhelmed. Music can also help people with neurodivergence develop social skills and form meaningful relationships. Neurodivergent brains often identify sounds differently than non-neurodivergent brains. Due to this, music therapy can be especially helpful to neurodivergent people.
